Read With Me | Kindergarten – 1st grade
Are you looking for a foundational literacy program that will support your efforts to ensure every child master’s the essential skills necessary to become a proficient reader? Read With Me is a family engagement program that provides a weekly supply of quality children’s books to families, complimented by family literacy workshops.

What your staff gets


Training: Your staff will receive a 2-hour training to help them prepare and manage the weekly distribution of Read With Me backpacks with families, in addition to conducting workshops for families.
Tools: Every new Read With Me partner receives:
* A set of Read With Me backpacks with quality children’s books in both English & Spanish
* Step-by-step program manuals
* Three (3) family literacy lesson plans
* Templates including outreach flyer, parent handouts, etc
* Parent Incentives including extra children’s books and Read With Me pencils

Impact


Evaluation results show that the Read With Me program:
* Increases reading in the home –families increased the amount of time they read together by an average of 29 minutes a day.
* Increases the number of times a week a family reads together – 75% of families share stories 4 or more times a week.
* Increases parent-teacher communication –preschool parents were 14% more likely to contact teachers about their early reading ability.

Staff Training or Direct Services


Staff Training: We will train your staff to manage the weekly distribution of Read With Me backpacks with families, in addition to leading family literacy workshops for parents. We also have highly trained staff that can go to your site and conduct family literacy workshops for an additional fee.

Reading Roads | Kindergarten-3rd Grade
Reading Roads is a five-week multicultural literacy program for parents. Based on popular education, the curriculum consists of lessons connected to themes families hold close to hearts including family, culture, community, etc. At the core of every lesson is a children’s book which reflects the lesson’s theme. Every workshop supports parents in conducting literacy activities at home and strengthens their skills and confidence to support their child’s literacy development.

Training: Your staff will receive a 2-day training to successfully engage parents in their child’s literacy development and implement the Reading Roads program at their site.

Tools: Every training participant will receive:
* Easy-to-use lesson plans
* Handouts (available in English & Spanish)
* Take-home activities (available in English & Spanish)
* Templates including Sign in sheets, flyers, etc.
* Startup library of children’s books that complement each lesson

Improves literacy skills:
o 92% of parents report that their child’s reading skills have improved.
o 94% of parents report that their (own) reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills improved.

Increases homework involvement:
• The number of parents who help their child with their homework more than 30 minutes a day increased by 18%

Direct Services: Families In Schools has highly trained facilitators that can conduct five (5) workshops for your student’s families at [COST] per workshop.

Pricing


$15,000 is a lot of money. We recommend partnering with a network of preschool providers. We can also support you with finding other preschool providers in your area. If 30 preschool providers split the cost of $15,000 that’s $500 per provider, and you will have all of the tools and resources to implement the program for life.
