LOS ANGELES FAMILIES, TEACHERS CIVIL RIGHTS LEADERS, AND LABOR UNITE TO URGE VOTERS TO SUPPORT MEASURE EE
Los Angeles, CA- Families, civil rights and labor leaders will gather for a press conference on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, from 10:00 a.m.- 10:30 a.m. at Belmont High School, 1575 W 2nd St, Los Angeles, CA 90026, to urge voters to vote YES on Measure EE.
The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce are protecting corporate interests over student interests by opposing Measure EE that would bring more than half a billion dollars to Los Angeles Unified public schools. If Measure EE fails, L.A. Unified could face staff layoffs and school closures.
The urgent need for new revenues for public education makes Measure EE, a parcel tax based on square footage, on the June 4, 2019 ballot too important to oppose. California consistently ranks among the bottom 10 states in per-pupil spending. The continued systematic underfunding of our schools diminishes the opportunity for all our students to succeed in college, career, and life.
The passage of Measure EE can reduce class sizes across L.A. Unified, place a full-time nurse at every school, hire more college counselors, increase library services, and hire and retain excellent teachers. Measure EE unites parents, students, teachers, and community stakeholders around student success. They urge all voters to go to the polls on June 4th and vote YES on Measure EE. What could be more important than the prosperity of our children and the City of Los Angeles?
