Families In Schools is enthralled to have Karen L. Mapp, Ed.D., keynote this year’s Alliance Summit & Excellence In Parent Engagement Awards, between 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM.

Dr. Mapp is a senior lecturer on education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) and the faculty director of the Education Policy and Management Master’s Program.

At this year’s summit, Dr. Mapp will inspire us to think deeply about the importance of building authentic partnerships with families and communities for student success.

“One of the foundational pillars of effective practice is that whatever initiative a school or district designs, there has to be a real intentional focus on building relationships of trust and respect with families. The relational piece is the glue that holds the rest of the initiative together,” said Dr. Mapp in a recent interview.

Over the past twenty years, Dr. Mapp’s research and practice focus has been on the cultivation of partnerships among families, community members and educators that support student achievement and school improvement. She has served as a consultant on family engagement in the U.S. Department of Education from 2011-2013, and is the author and co-author of several articles and books about the role of family and community members in the work of student achievement.

Please join, Dr. Karen Mapp at the Seventh Annual Alliance Summit & Excellence In Parent Engagement Awards, on November 21, 2019 at the Millennium Biltmore in Downtown Los Angeles.
