Bright Spots in Los Angeles Report
FIS Literacy Landscape Report, 2025
In support of the Read LA! Campaign, and following our first literacy landscape report in 2024, Bright Spots in Los Angeles: School Districts Leading the Charge to Solve the Literacy Crisis sheds light on the magnitude of California’s literacy crisis and the innovative solutions that have emerged in response to it.
In this report, Families In Schools shares the stories of “bright spots” and “districts to watch” in Los Angeles County that are making positive strides through literacy policies and practices grounded in research. We hope the lessons learned and resources shared in this report will inspire school and district leaders across California to take bold action in prioritizing literacy and giving students the tools they need for success.
