JPMChase Grant Awarded to FIS to Support College Awareness and Preparation

This summer, Families In Schools (FIS) celebrated a significant grant from JPM Chase and Company to continue growing the College Awareness and Preparations programs.  With this grant, Families In Schools will work with four high-need middle schools in the East LA/Boyle Heights and Leimert Park/Baldwin Village communities.  Using a series of program models, FIS will provide a package of intervention programs and strategies that support students and build staff capacity in parent engagement and the development of a school-to-college-to-career pathway culture.

By the close of the school year, students will have received extensive information on college options and given a blueprint on how to reach their individual goals to go on to college.  Parents will be thoroughly informed on ways to support their children and become educated on the roles they can play in their child’s advancement into high school, college and onto their careers.  Teachers and school staff will also learn effective tools in creating a college-going culture at each of the four schools.  Additionally, a part of the process will include the building of bridges between community partners, schools and families.  Overall, JP Morgan Chase will provide a significant foundation for growth in the East LA/Boyle Heights and Leimert Park/Baldwin Village communities through the work with Families in Schools.
