With more than thirty years experience developing a variety of social service programs and managing legal, children’s advocacy and community service organizations, Sandra Gutierrez serves as the lead consultant and National Director for the Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors Program of Families in Schools. Abriendo Puertas is the nation’s first evidence-based, comprehensive training program for Latino parents with children from birth to five years of age. Prior to her work creating Abriendo Puertas, Ms. Gutierrez developed a series of training programs and educational DVDs to support children and families involved in the child welfare system for Parents Action for Children. Her multi-faceted career has included serving as the founder and director of the first Central American Refugee Program in the United States, creating health education programs for migrant farmworkers and designing campaigns to promote the rights and responsibilities of immigrants , the benefits of preschool programs  and to increase the availability of high quality early education services in neighborhoods with the least access.  In addition, for seven years, Ms. Gutierrez served as a founding member and State Commissioner for First 5 California where she established the Advisory Committee on Equity.
