As a community leader, I know you are committed to involving parents in the education of their young children and Families In Schools (FIS) would like to invite your organization to be a part of an innovative, new parent program.  FIS will be hosting the first Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors Train-the-Trainer Institute on July 15 – 17, 2009 in Los Angeles, California. Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors is an evidence-based parent leadership program for Latino parents of children 0-5 years old. This unique curriculum was evaluated by UC Berkeley and developed in partnership with Latino parents, researchers, and program specialists.  In the Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors Institute, participants will learn how to train other community leaders in the curriculum, as well as how to provide the program with parents.

This dynamic training will cover the following topics:

· Popular education methodology and approach

· Using culturally relevant activities to develop parent leadership

· Overview of curriculum and session formats

· Developing community partnerships and constructing a local resource kit

· Program implementation including start-up, parent recruitment, retention, and integrating your program into existing organizational structures

·  Training staff at your organization to facilitate Abriendo Puertas with parents
