The Board of Directors of Families In Schools (FIS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Jo Carcedo as our new Executive Director.  Ms. Carcedo will work alongside Maria Casillas, President, and members of the board, to pursue the goals and mission of the organization and will provide oversight to all business and fundraising functions.  Her expertise will enhance the organization’s efforts in providing technical assistance and program support to schools and community-based organizations, building effective partnerships, engaging parents in early childhood and family literacy programs, and strengthening the student/parent transitions throughout the continuum of pre-school to high school education.

Ms. Carcedo comes to FIS with a rich background in the non-profit sector focusing on support to families and children.  Most recently she was Senior Area Director at World Vision where she provided operational leadership for programs in the Southern California region, and led fundraising efforts to support activities at home and abroad.  Ms. Carcedo spent several years managing her own firm, specializing in all aspects of fundraising, business and organizational development for non-profits.  As Senior Vice-President of Program Services of Neighborhood Centers Inc., (Houston, Texas) she was responsible for the overall management and monitoring of programs. Ms. Carcedo also managed the Office of Communications for the Department of Health and Human Services in Houston, Texas.  She has an M.P.A. from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin, and a B.A. from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

As an advocate for children and families, she has dedicated her life’s work to improving the conditions which result in poverty at home and abroad. She is passionate about helping parents strengthen their capacity to support their children’s education so they can provide their children a pathway to the American dream.
