Supplemental Education Services (SES) are free tutoring services paid for by the US Department of Education for children that are attending a Second Year Program Improvement School and are considered eligible for free or reduced meal program.  SES was made possible by the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001.

From 2004 to 2006, Families in Schools’ Parent Information Resource Center (FIS-PIRC) working with Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), provided information to parents about SES.

For the school year 2007-2008, there were approximately 324,000 eligible students in 293 LAUSD Program Improvement schools.  In addition to hosting 22 Provider Fairs within the eight local districts, FIS hosted informational and enrollment sessions at 171 schools.  A total of 7,185 enrollment applications were submitted.

Families in Schools (FIS) continues to work in partnership with LAUSD for the 2008-2009 school year to provide parents with information on how to enroll their children in SES.
