“The discussion and research we shared about Latino parents perceptions of school and education helped me change my ideas about how to approach the parents of the students in my classroom.”

Going on to College (GOT College!) assists parents in understanding the importance of higher education and the academic preparation needed for their child’s success. GOT College! information helps parents understand the purpose of the California Master Plan (a choherent system for postsecondary education with defines specific roles for the UC's, Cal States, and City Community Colleges), the college going process and requirements, as well as the financial aid opportunities available for their children.

GOT College! is divided into three distinctive sequential modules to build in-depth knowledge of college and financial aid information. In addition, all modules focus on helping families strategize for their children’s education as they move through the educational pipeline.
• Elementary Module: focus on early exposure to the college going process vocabulary, requirements, and setting high academic goals for all students. • Middle School Module: focus on academic requirements, competitiveness, and early planning for high school as a stepping stone for becoming college-ready. • High School Module: focus on in-depth knowledge about the college and financial aid process as well as creating a personalized academic plan for becoming competitively eligible for college.
Our College Knowledge Parent Academy offers the opportunity to bring important aspects of the GOT College! curricula to parents. Parent Academies are usually offered in conjunction with other topics (see Parent and Teacher Education section) or as a stand alone program.
Each year Going on to College (GOT College!) organizes college and/or career conferences to offer information to families about the college going process and career preparation. The purpose of the event is to expose families to a college campus, motivate students and their parents to begin planning for college, as well as providing them with financial aid information. The program agenda usually includes a college information workshop, a student panel, and a campus tour. In the past, families have also participated in science themed conferences with professionals and demonstrations.
Every year, GOT College! creates the “College Corner” at the Feria del Libro: A Family Book Fair. The “College Corner” booth provides a variety of resources regarding college and career preparation to parents and their children of all ages. In addition, college representatives and students engage participants in fun activities relating to college information. Visit our booth every year to make sure your child goes on to college after high school. (www.feriadellibro.net)
Going on to College works closely with a variety of programs and colleges to promote higher education, college experience, and career information. We gratefully acknowledge our partners who have helped us service our families:
