“More parents are participating at parent conferences, asking focused questions about their child’s English language development, and about how their child is performing on specific tests.” – Dr. Jo Ann Isken, Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services, Lennox School District
To promote productive partnerships, Families In Schools staff has trained nearly 1,200 school staff and over 500 parent leaders, with 92 percent reporting increased awareness, confidence, and ability to implement effective
parent engagement strategies. In Los Angeles schools, Families In Schools conducts outreach campaigns informing parents about Supplemental Educational Services (SES) free tutoring services, and Public School Choice (PSC), both parent resources in the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. Over 47,000 parents have participated in information sessions filling 100 percent of available LAUSD’s free tutoring.
