Advocacies

“Advocacy is a work in progress, but I am already seeing changes in how we think and operate with various groups.  With help from Families In Schools we are learning to evaluate, assess, and refine. That’s all part of the process.” – Luis Santana, Executive Director, Reading and Beyond

Reading and Beyond, a Fresno-based nonprofit organization, has for many years provided services to Fresno’s low-income families and children of all ages. Families In Schools provides technical assistance to help them shape their advocacy in support of parents of ELL students, as they seek better support systems of learning in schools so that ELL students can master English.

“Families In Schools is giving us the tools to approach [advocacy] from different angles — to develop relationships, [and] relate to policy makers using the language they understand — to convince them to change conditions and improve opportunities for their community,” says Executive Director Luis Santana.
